There are several ways to get around Portland, Oregon.

Pubic Transit

Portland has an excellent public transit system. You can plan your trip at trimet.org or Google transit. There are three fare zones, and you can buy 1-2 zone tickets, 2-3 zone tickets, or all-zone tickets. The airport falls in zone 3, and most of downtown Portland is in zone 1. Trimet tickets are good on the MAX, bus, and streetcar. An all-zone 2-hour pass is $2.30, and a day pass is $4.75.

The Portland Marriott Waterfront Hotel (conference venue) falls within the "Fareless Square", where bus, MAX, and streetcar rides are free. Just say, “Fareless,” when you get on the bus. Bus drivers are very friendly and willing to give directions if you get lost.

Ticket machines at all MAX stations accept credit cards, coins, and dollar bills. Be warned that the machines will give you change in one dollar coins, and credit cards don't always work. Multiple 2-hour tickets bought at the same time will all be valid for the next two hours. You can also purchase a day pass from the machines, which may be cheaper for multiple trips. You can purchase 2-day or all-day tickets from bus drivers, but the ticket machines will only accept dollar bills and coins, and they will not give you change.

Pedicabs

If you're going a short distance downtown, you might want to pay for a ride in a pedicab (bicycle cab):
